Volkswagen Taigun 2021 teaser

Volkswagen is all set to unveil the Taigun SUV’s production-spec model in the Indian market as it has decided to take the wraps of the Taigun SUV on March 31, 2021. Volkswagen has released multiple teasers of the upcoming SUV’s arrival in the Indian market ahead of its launch.

The German automaker first showcased the Taigun at the 2020 Auto Expo and has given confirmation of its arrival as a two-wheel drive version in India.

The Taigun will be built on an all-new tailor-made MQB A0 IN platform to suit the Indian buyers and will be a modified version of the famous MQB platform of the brand developed jointly by Skoda & Volkswagen.

VW Taigun is equipped with LED projector headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED tail-lamp with a light bar across the boot-lid in the rear, faux scuff plates at both ends and a chrome-finished grille.

Inside the cabin, the Taigun is equipped with matching exterior-colour trims placed across the cabin, a fully-digital instrument console, a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls along with a large touchscreen infotainment system, and fast-charging USB slots.

The Taigun will be offered with a choice of two turbo-petrol engines – 1.0-litre TSI motor that will produce 108bhp at 5500rpm and 175Nm of peak torque at 1750rpm. and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine churning out 148bhp at 5000rpm, and 240Nm of peak torque at 1500rpm.

Volkswagen will also offer an optional DSG automatic transmission, but if the Taigun gets introduced with the larger 1.5-litre engine, the company will offer DSG as standard.

The Volkswagen Taigun will compete against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Nissan Kicks. But it’s main competitor will be the recently unveiled Skoda Kushaq having similar platform and powertrain options. The price of the Taigun will be quite competitive due to high level of localization. It will become Volkswagen’s entry-level SUV in the Indian car market.
