Tata Motors is launching back to back new SUVs in the Indian market. The company’s India line-up currently includes the Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV, Tata Harrier mid-size SUV and the Tata Safari three-row SUV. However, to cater to the masses, the company will now launch its smallest SUV ever made and it will be called the Tata Punch. Tata Motors has already revealed the Tata Punch mini SUV and in this article, we have shared the top five things you need to know.

Looks and Design

The all-new Tata Punch is the production-spec version of the Tata HBX concept vehicle that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. The good thing about it is that the production version of this new mini SUV remains more or less the same as its concept version. At the front, it gets Harrier-inspired fascia with LED DRLs at the top and headlamp at the bottom along with fog lamps. The mini SUV also gets body cladding, faux skid plates and attractive dual-tone alloy wheels.

The new Tata Punch mini SUV will sit below the Tata Nexon in the company’s India line-up. This SUV will measure 3840 mm in length, 1822 mm in width and 1635 mm in height. The new Tata Punch will also have a wheelbase of 2450 mm and a massive ground clearance of 180 mm.

Engine and Transmission Options

The new Tata Punch SUV will get the same engine as the Tata Tiago. This new mini SUV will draw power from a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. This motor will churn out 86 PS of max. power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. This new mini SUV might also get the 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill from the Tata Altroz iTurbo. If that’s the actual case, it will be the most powerful vehicle in its segment.

Features and Safety

The new Tata Punch mini SUV will be based on Tata Motors’ new ALFA platform which also underpins the Altroz. It will get a lot of features like a semi-digital instrument cluster, a massive 7.0-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, etc. The mini SUV will also get a host of safety features like ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, seat belt reminders, a high-speed alert system, reverse parking sensors with a camera, etc.

Launch Date, Price and Competition

The new Tata Punch mini SUV is expected to be launched in India in the month of September. It will lock horns against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Mahindra KUV 100, etc. The mini SUV is expected to be priced from Rs 5 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi.
