Features Variants and Colour Options

While we have already seen exterior and interior images of the Tata Punch on the internet, there are a few details that are yet to be confirmed. We now have new information on the Tata Punch’s trim and variant lineup, as well as the colour options it will be available with, thanks to online reports.

According to recent reports, the Tata Punch will be available in four trim levels: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. The Punch receives a new nomenclature for its trims, which differs from other Tata models, which receive trims such as XE, XM, XT, and so on.

The Punch comes in three monotone colours: White, Grey, and Stonehenge, as well as six dual-tone colours: White and Black, Grey and Black, Orange and Black, Blue and White, Stonehenge and Black, and Urban Bronze and Black.

The dual-tone colour options are only available on the top-spec Creative trim. Meanwhile, the base Pure trim will be available only in white monotone. The AMT transmission will be available on the Adventure and Creative trim levels.

Although Tata has not revealed the exact features list for the Punch, the top of the line trims will feature a floating, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, automatic climate control, a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, iRA connected car technology, automatic projector headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a 7.0-inch semi-digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, dual front airbags, ABS with Brake Sway Control (BSC), EBD, electronic stability control, and a rear parking camera will be standard safety features.

Platform, Powertrain and Dimensions

The Tata Punch is based on Tata’s ALFA architecture, which also underpins the Altroz hatchback, and thus inherits some of its inherent benefits, such as 90-degree opening doors and a flat interior floor.

The Punch’s dimensions are expected to be 3,827 mm in length, 1,742mm in width, 1,615mm in height, and 2,445 mm in wheelbase. The Punch will have a 187mm ground clearance. It will have a 366-litre boot and ride on 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the Punch will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 86hp of power and 113Nm of torque. This is the same engine that does duty in the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz, and it will be paired with either a five-speed MT or an AMT automatic transmission. The Punch will also have an engine start/stop functionality to improve fuel efficiency, and the AMT gearbox will include traction modes, as seen in some larger Tata SUVs.

At a later stage, the Punch could be equipped with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Altroz iTurbo.

Price Expectation and Competition

Tata is expected to open official bookings for the Punch on October 4 when it is revealed in full, though some dealers have already begun accepting unofficial pre-bookings. The price will be announced closer to mid-October, and it is expected to range between Rs 5.50 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.

The Punch will be Tata’s new entry-level SUV, competing with high-riding hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. However, higher variants of the Punch will compete with the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger due to their extremely competitive pricing.
