The wait is finally over! Tata`s highly anticipated new SUV, the Harrier has been launched in India. Prices for the Tata Harrier start at Rs. 12.69 lakhs ex-showroom. It is available in four variants and gets only a diesel option. The Harrier is based on Land Rover`s platform which makes the interiors of the SUV very roomy.
The Tata Harrier first made its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo as the H5X concept. The concept was a big hit due to its radical styling and futuristic design. Staying true to the concept the Harrier retains most of the design elements of the H5X concept. On tape the SUV is bigger in size when compared to the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta.
Inside the cabin the Harrier gets a black and brown colored theme. The interiors boast of premium quality bits like oak-brown faux wood and knurled finished knobs for the volume controls. The top of the line variant features an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Key features include auto headlamps, 9 speaker JBL audio system, keyless entry, rear AC vents, puddle lamps with logo projection, push button start/stop and much more.
Powering the Harrier is a 2.0 litre Kryotec diesel motor sourced from Fiat. The engine develops 140 BHP of max power and 350 Nm of twisting force mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic variant is expected later this year. Tata will not be launching an AWD variant of the Harrier as there is not much demand.
The Tata Harrier is available in 4 variants namely – XE, XM, XT and XZ. The base variant of the Harrier gets projector headlights, electrically adjustable ORVMs, LED DRLs and rear parking sensors. All models are equipped with safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD. The top of the line XZ trim gets projector headlights, ORVMs with logo projection, foglamps with cornering function, 8.8-inch touch screen, shark fin antenna, instrument cluster with 7.0-inch TFT display. It also features multiple driving modes, hill hold and descent control, corner stability control, six airbags, ESP (electronic stability program) electronic traction control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Tata Motors is also working on a seven-seater variant of the Harrier. It will get a more powerful diesel engine mated to an automatic transmission at the time of launch. Tata will be launching the 7-seat variant by the end of 2019.
