The leaked teaser video appears to be made for announcing the official commencement of bookings for the Altroz. We thus believe that the hatchback will be soon opened for bookings in the country. It is important to note that Tata Motors has released an official statement rubbishing some media reports that claimed that some select Tata dealers have already started accepting bookings for the Altroz.
The leaked teaser video, which has a duration of just 15 secs, also reveals a few new details. The interior design appears to be similar to what Tata had showcased at the Geneva Motor Show last year. However, for the first time, ambient lighting is shown as part of the Altroz’s cabin. We are quite certain that the Altroz will get ambient lighting as a green hue is visible around the centre console, while the touchscreen infotainment system too gets an ‘Ambient Lighting’ option. Also interesting is the end of the video, which shows a Google Assistant icon. This might be an indication towards the presence of app-based and Google-powered voice-activated functions in the Tata Altroz. Higher variants will even come with cruise control functionality, which is visible on the cruise control buttons located on the steering wheel.
On the outside, the final production-spec Altroz will likely be styled similar to what we have seen on the final concepts at Geneva. However, a top shot of the Altroz shows that the front doors can be opened up to 90 degrees. This, if tricked down to the final version, will help in providing easy ingress and egress to front seat occupants.
Not much is known about the technical specifications of the Tata Altroz. However, we expect to see three engine options – an 85 hp, 1.2-litre petrol from the Tiago, a 102 hp version of the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon, and probably a 90 hp version of the Nexon’s 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. A 5-speed manual will likely be the only transmission option available at launch. However, Tata will likely introduce more automatic options in the Altroz range over the succeeding few months.
Tata will likely continue its aggressive pricing strategy with the Altroz. We expect it to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 – 8 lakh (ex-showroom), thus under-cutting all its key rivals.
