Home grown Indian auto manufacturer Tata Motors launched the Altroz premium hatchback in January 2020. It’s been almost a year now and the carmaker is readying to launch the turbo petrol variant of the hatchback in India. The turbo-charged petrol version of the Altroz will be launched in the country on Jan 13, 2021 as per online reports. Once launched it will rival the likes of the VW Polo TSI, and Hyundai i20 DCT. We expect the upcoming Tata Altroz turbo petrol to be sold in the mid and top-spec trims.
Design-wise the Altroz turbo petrol will look similar to the regular model. Noticeable changes would include minor changes like turbo badging at the rear and new exterior colour options to differentiate it from the regular model. Initially there were rumours that the car would launch during Diwali 2020, but now the launch date has been officially confirmed.
Under the hood the Altroz turbo petrol variant will be powered by Nexon`s 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine but in a lower state of tune. Reports suggest the engine will develop 108 bhp of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, Tata Motors would also introduce the hatchback with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, the 1.2 litre turbo petrol on the Nexon SUV generates 118 bhp and 170 Nm which is a lot more.
The regular variants of the hatchback are available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2 litre naturally aspirated unit generates 85 bhp and 113 Nm while the 1.5 litre oil burner produces 89 bhp and 200 Nm. Transmission options on both the powertrains includes a 5-speed MT.
The prices for the turbo variant will be slightly higher than the regular variants of the Altroz. The Tata Altroz currently retails at Rs. 5.44 lakh to Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
