The premium hatchback segment in India is dominated by the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Tata Motors also wants to be a part of this fast-growing segment and showcased the Tata 45X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo. The car has been spotted recently by a member of Team-bhp under heavy camouflage. From the spy shots it is quite evident that the 45X is production ready.
Entirely designed by Tata`s technical Centre in England, the Tata 45X is a stunner to look at. On tape the concept is 4253 mm long, 1850 mm wide and 1451 mm in height. In order to avail the excise duty concession for cars under 4 meters, Tata will keep the car under 4 meters in length.
The 45X concept is based on the company`s advanced modular platform which is also know as Alfa. The car has a futuristic design with sleep headlamps and a coupe like sloping roofline.
The design language of Tata`s latest cars is very aggressive and bold which is the same case with the 45X. The hatchback looks very stylish and features slim headlamps and LED DRLs. The rear gets a raked glass area with integrated taillights with Tata badging in the center.
Tata will offer customization options on the 45X with several exterior and interior color schemes. Being a premium product, expect the quality of interiors, overall fit and finish to be better or similar to its rivals.
Under the hood theTata 45X will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol motor paired to a mild hybridsystem to improve the overall fuel efficiency. The mild hybrid system is a goodmove by Tata since Maruti has already introduced this technology in the Ciaz. It will also be offered with a 1.5-liter diesel motor which currently does duty in the Nexon.
We expect Tata to launch the 45X by the end of 2019. The new car will compete with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. We expect Tata to price the car aggressively, with prices starting from Rs 5.7 lakhs (ex-showroom).
