KUSHAQ is the name given to the first production model of the INDIA 2.0 project spearheaded by ŠKODA AUTO on the Indian subcontinent. The name of this mid-size SUV originates from Sanskrit, an Indian language that is thousands of years old. The term “kushak” signifies a king or an emperor in the “language of the gods”, still used today. This complements the latest ŠKODA KUSHAQ’s powerful appearance to perfection. For the globally popular ŠKODA KODIAQ, KAROQ and KAMIQ SUV models, the spelling with the letter ‘K’ at the beginning and the letter ‘Q’ at the end is in keeping with the distinctive nomenclature. In March 2021, the new ŠKODA KUSHAQ will have its world premiere.
For ŠKODA AUTO in the Indian subcontinent, the launching of the new KUSHAQ is about to usher in a new age. This is the territory where the Czech automaker manages all the activities of the Volkswagen Group within the framework of the INDIA 2.0 project, which involves a strategic model consisting of four new mid-size ŠKODA and Volkswagen models, beginning with the KUSHAQ SUV. The MQB-A0-IN variant of the Modular Transverse Matrix, which ŠKODA AUTO has specifically tailored to meet the needs of the Indian market, will be used in all these vehicles.
The optimistic aims of the Indian market are underlined by the selection of the name KUSHAQ, which comes from Sanskrit, a language created by the god Brahma according to Hindu mythology. Sanskrit is still in use today as the formal language of faith, the arts and sciences, and is one of the 22 official languages of India. In order to fit its SUV nomenclature, ŠKODA has adapted the spelling of the word ‘kushak’, meaning a king or emperor. This is why, just like the popular KODIAQ, KAROQ and KAMIQ SUV models, the ŠKODA KUSHAQ is written with a “K” at the beginning and a “Q” at the end. The new SUV blends ŠKODA AUTO’s signature qualities with the characteristics requested by sophisticated Indian customers, such as a distinctive style, superior comfort and safety, as well as excellent value for money.
