Czech carmaker Skoda has released two design sketches to offer a detailed preview of the new KUSHAQ. The mid-size SUV template for the Indian market draws influence from the ŠKODA VISION IN concept car’s bold look. ŠKODA AUTO has adapted the MQB-A0-IN variant of the Modular Transverse Toolkit of the Volkswagen Group specifically for India. It is the first of four models from the ŠKODA and Volkswagen brands to be made locally in India as part of the INDIA 2.0 product campaign. The ŠKODA KUSHAQ World Premiere will take place on March 18, 2021.
The strong front of the new ŠKODA KUSHAQ, whose name is derived from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, is seen in the first design sketch. The word ‘Kushak’ means emperor or ruler. A prominent appearance is created by the sharply cut, two-part front headlights, which extend to the large ŠKODA grille. The impressive front bumper with underride protection highlights the SUV’s athletic appearance.
The second sketch shows the rear of the new ŠKODA KUSHAQ, which is outlined by an elongated roof spoiler and a rugged rear diffuser in the bumper and has a transparent structure. The mid-size SUV taillights display the brand’s signature crystalline structures, and on the tailgate, the ŠKODA lettering appears in block capitals.
The ŠKODA KUSHAQ and the other upcoming volume models, in terms of technology, are based on the locally built and manufactured MQB-A0-IN platform. This already complies with the latest, stringent standards for safety and emission in India. Technical production is being carried out at the ŠKODA AUTO Technology Centre in Pune, with a targeted 95 percent localisation level for new vehicles.
The Skoda Kushaq will be offered with two turbo petrol engine options – 1.0 L and 1.5 L powertrains mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. Once launched the Skoda Kushaq will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Ka Seltos, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and other mid-sized SUVs in the segment.
