Global safety agency GNCAP (global new car assessment program) has recently released the list of safest cars in India. The Global NCAP list certifies that the below mentioned cars are some of the safest cars you can own in India in 2020.
Here is the list of top 5 safest cars in India in 2020
Home grown auto manufacturer Mahindra`s XUV300 is rated the safest car in India by Global NCAP. The compact SUV has been awarded five stars based on the below parameters –
- Five stars for adult occupancy – 16.42/17
- Four stars for child occupant protection – 37.44/49
The base variant of the XUV300 (W4 and W6) come equipped with ABS with EBD and airbags, Isofix child mount seats, rear parking sensors seat belt reminder and rear disk brakes. The higher variants of XUV300 )W8 and W8(0) come with added safety kit, the top spec trim gets seven airbags, electronic stability program, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking camera and much more. The XUV300 is currently the safest compact SUV you can buy in India.
The second car on our list to get 5-star rating for adult occupant safety is the Tata Altroz. Here are the details –
- Adult occupancy score (5-stars) – 16.13/17
- Child occupant protection (3-stars) -29/49
The Altroz received only three stars for child occupancy protection since the rear seat backrest detached and the test dummy`s head came in contact with the car`s interior. However, the Tata Altroz is the safest hatchback in India certified by Global NCAP. The Altroz is equipped with two airbags, ABS with EBD, seat-belt reminder, Isofix seat mounts for children and rear parking sensors. The higher spec models get height adjustable front seat belts, front and rear fog lamps and a rear parking camera.
Tata Nexon models produced after 2018 secured five stars for adult occupant safety and three stars for child occupancy.
- Adult occupancy score – 16.06/17
- Child occupant score – 25/49
Airbags, ABS and Isofix child seat mounts are standard across the Nexon range. In addition, the report states that the protection offered to the passenger head and neck was good while driver and passenger chest showed adequate protection.

The made in India Marazzo MPV scored four stars for adult occupant safety and two stars for child occupancy.
- Adult occupancy score – 12.85/17
- Child occupant score – 22.22/49
All variants of the Mahindra Marazzo come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, front seat-belt pretensioners, Isofix mounts for rear seats and driver`s side seat belt reminder. Therefore, it is currently the safest MPV on sale in India.
Fifth on the list of safest cars in the German built Volkswagen Polo. The Polo scored four stars for adult occupant safety and 3 stars for child occupancy in the recent test conducted by Global NCAP.
- Adult occupant score- 12.54/17
- Child occupancy score – 29.91/49
Additionally, the higher level trims of the VW polo hatchback come with all the standard safety kit.
