Hyundai Motor India has revealed that it has received more than 25,000 bookings in 13 days for the new Santro. MD and CEO of Hyundai India Mr. Y.K. Koo informed that delivery time for the booked cars would take 3 months.
The new Santro was launched in the country on October 23rd. The brand which was discontinued by Hyundai many years back has made a comeback to rival the likes of the Maruti Wagon R and the Tata Tiago.
The Hyundai Santro has been launched at an introductory price of Rs. 3.89 lakhs, ex-showroom, while the top end variant is priced at Rs. 5.35 lakhs. The Santro has been priced lower than its competitors, the Wagon R and Celerio. Hyundai will be offering the hatchback for the first 50,000 customers at a special introductory price.
The new Santro has been completely redesigned by Hyundai`s design team. It features a wide front grille with integrated fog lamps. The bonnet and sides get deep creases which give the car a very purposeful look. Overall the design is very pleasing to the eye and not very flamboyant. The new Santro retains it tall boy stance.
Under the hood it is powered by a 1.1 liter 4-cylinder engine that does duty in the i10. The engine has been tweaked to deliver better performance in a smooth and linear manner. The motor develops 69 PS of power and 99 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The Santro has an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency figure of 20.3 kmpl.
