Fiat recently introduced its next small SUV for Brazil, and curiously, the firm conducted a poll asking its customers to decide on a new name for the car. Pulse, Domo, and Tuo were the three name suggestions, and the Fiat Pulse was chosen as the winner with 65 percent of the vote.

The new Pulse SUV, codenamed Progetto or Project 363, is scheduled to hit the market in South America later this year, in September or October 2021. However, it will most certainly be a model exclusive to Latin America.

The next Fiat Pulse is based on the company’s new MLA platform, which promises improved performance, durability, and comfort, as well as a higher degree of safety features. Fiat also wants the SUV to receive a good safety rating in the Latin NCAP crash test.

While the model is a modified version of the Fiat Argo’s, Fiat has previously stated that the new SUV will not share any components with Fiat’s existing models such as the Argo and Cronos, and would instead receive exclusive mechanical components. This comprises a new turbo flex engine, as well as advanced electronic equipment and driver support systems.

The new Fiat Pulse has a hefty and robust appearance thanks to all the strong lines and claddings, while the two-tone treatment, black exterior style, LED headlights, LED DRLs, and sporty alloys give it a premium feel. Exterior features include LED taillamps, roof rails, a high-mounted spoiler, and faux skid plates, among others.

Fiat has yet to showcase the interior of the new SUV, which will include the Fiat Connect Me connected car system and other premium features. While the exact measurements are unknown, the company has stated that the vehicle will have a wheelbase of 2,532 mm.

The upcoming Fiat Pulse is expected to have two petrol engine options under the hood. The first will be a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a CVT automated transmission.

For the lower-spec models, a naturally aspirated 1.3-liter engine with 109 bhp and 139 Nm will be available, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Fiat may potentially offer the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine that already powers the Jeep Compass in Brazil.
