Mercedes-Benz EQS Electric Sedan Listed On Official Website: To Launch In India Soon

All-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS front

Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan was earlier unveiled this month. The EQS has been one of the most-awaited models in the EV market and is equivalent to the S-Class. However, it seems that Mercedes-Benz is going to launch the EQS electric sedan in the Indian market as it is listed on the brand’s India website with the words “Coming Soon” mentioned.

The EV is the first vehicle of Mercedes-Benz to use the brand’s Electric Vehicle Architecture, a bespoke platform for electric vehicles. The upcoming EVs from Mercedes-Benz like the EQE, EQE SUV, and EQS SUV will also be underpinned on this new platform.

The new Mercedes EQS retains the 2019 EQS vision concept and comes with angular headlights. These headlights are quite striking and are joined by a thin strip of the lighting element. The company also offers optional 3-dimensional star-patterned tail lamps, which are somewhat similar in styling.

The new model doesn’t have the front boot under the clamshell bonnet like most of the EVs. Only during scheduled services, the bonnet can be opened. The front left-hand side of the Mercedes-Benz comes with a separate tray that swivels its way out to add washer fluid for cleaning the windscreen. The new EQS measures 5,216mm long and 1,512mm tall. The EQS has large 22-inch alloy wheels and a wheelbase longer than the latest S-Class at 3,210mm.

The highlighting feature in the interior of the car is a trio of large screens integrated neatly into a single piece of curved glass that runs across the dashboard. This feature is present only in this model. Rated under the WLTP test cycle, the Mercedes-Benz EQS has a range of 770km and both variants can reach a top speed of a maximum of 210kph.

Mechanically, the new EV model of Mercedes is equipped with a 108kWh battery and comes with a single asynchronous motor capable. It transmits a maximum power of 334bhp and a peak torque of 458Nm to the rear wheels. The 2480kg luxury EV takes just 6.2s to accelerate from 0-100kph. The EQS 580 model, on the other hand, produces a maximum power of 523bhp and a peak torque of 856Nm. It takes just 4.3s to accelerate from 0-100 kph.

Experts believe that this electric sedan will set new benchmarks in terms of providing comfort and luxury for the future electric sedans in India.
