
Mahindra recently launched the all-new Mahindra XUV 700 in the Indian market with a very aggressive starting price of just Rs 11.99 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The new Mahindra XUV 700 is a premium mid-size SUV and it will rival a lot of cars in this price segment ranging from the sub-compact SUVs to compact SUVs to mid-size ones. However, the main arch-rival of the new Mahindra XUV 700 will be the new Tata Safari which was launched in India earlier this year. Looks and Colour Variants

The all-new Mahindra XUV 700 is the first Mahindra vehicle to feature the new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. The XUV700 has an evolutionary design and it carries forward many design elements of the Mahindra XUV500. The XUV700 gets full LED headlamps with massive C-shaped LED DRLs along with LED fog lamps and the side profile of the SUV features new twin five-spoke alloy wheels. It gets flush-fitting door handles too and at the rear, there are new unique LED taillights.

The Tata Safari, on the other hand, takes design inspiration from the Harrier. In fact, it is an extended three-row version of the Harrier and gets very few design tweaks. For instance, at the front, it gets a chrome-embellished grille with a big Tata logo in between. The SUV gets LED DRLs on top and headlamps at the bottom along with fog lamps and chrome surrounds all-around. The side profile houses massive 18-inch alloy wheels and at the rear, it features LED tail lamps.

The new Mahindra XUV 700 is powered by a BS6 compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that churns out 155 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque in the base variant and 185 PS of maximum power along with 420 Nm of peak torque (450 Nm with AT) in other trim levels. The engine comes paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and it gets all-wheel-drive too. The Tata Safari draws power from a BS6 compliant 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This diesel mill pumps out 170 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and it gets a 6-speed torque converter AT too.

The Tata Safari misses out on all-wheel-drive or 4X4 and it doesn’t get a petrol engine too. The Mahindra XUV 700, on the other hand, gets a turbo petrol motor too. The Mahindra XUV700 draws power from a new BS6 compliant 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. This BS6 motor churns out 200 PS of maximum power and 380 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque-converter AT.

Features and Safety Equipment

The Mahindra XUV 700 gets a ton of features, including dual 10.25-inch digital screens with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, Mahindra’s new AdrenoX connect with over 60 connected car features, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System with hi-tech features like Driver Drowsiness Detection System, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, etc. It also gets safety features like up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HSA (Hill-Start Assist Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) front and rear parking sensors, etc.

The Tata Safari is also a feature-rich SUV but not as feature-loaded as the new XUV 700. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It gets almost all the safety equipment offered on the XUV 700, save for ADAS.

Mahindra has revealed the price of only select variants of the XUV 700 and it is priced between Rs 11.99 lakhs – Rs 14.99 lakhs. The price of the other trims of the XUV 700 will be revealed at a later stage and the pre-launch bookings for the same will also open soon. The new Tata Safari, on the other hand, is priced between Rs 14.99 lakhs – Rs 22.01 lakhs. All the prices mentioned here are applicable to Ex-showroom Delhi.
