Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) announced their plans to deliver 20,000 units of the electric SUV XUV400 in the first year it hits the market. The XUV400 was unveiled in September of last year and is being introduced with a starting price of Rs 15.99 lakh. The XUV400 will be available in two variants across 34 cities in its first phase.
The car manufacturer is set to begin taking orders for its newest model on January 26, 2023. The statement from the company also revealed that delivery of the EL variant of the vehicle is expected to begin in March 2023, while the EC variant is projected to launch near the Diwali holidays. The EC variant of the XUV400 will come with an impressive 34.5 kWh battery and a range of 375 km on a single charge. Additionally, buyers will have the option of two different chargers, with the 3.3 kW priced at Rs. 15.99 lakh and the 7.2 kW priced at Rs. 16.49 lakh.
On the other hand, the EL trim has a 39.4 kWh battery with a range of 456 km with a 7.2 kW charger and is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh. Mahindra has stated that introductory prices are applicable for the first 5,000 bookings of each of the two variants.
Further, M&M said that it “aims to deliver 20,000 units of the XUV400 within a year of its launch, considering the challenges of the structural gap between the demand and supply of automotive-grade semiconductors and the availability of battery packs”.
“This is a brand that we have developed specifically for those customers who want to be in charge of a more sustainable tomorrow. We are confident that our first electric SUV will excite and inspire more consumers in India to go electric,” M&M President – Automotive Sector Veejay Nakra said.
The XUV400 is set to enter the highly competitive market of compact electric SUVs. At this time, the segment is largely dominated by the Tata Motors NexonEV, which is available in a price range of 14.99 lakh to 20.04 lakh rupees. The XUV400 is sure to shake up the competition and provide an even more competitive alternative to the NexonEV.
