Launch Alert: Mahindra Alturas launching on November 26, 2018

Mahindra is readying itself for the launch of its flagship SUV the Alturas in the Indian market on November 26, 2018. The Alturas will be replacing the ageing SsangYong Rexton SUV and will be the company`s flagship model in the domestic market.

Ssangyong Rexton

Based on the latest iteration of the SsangYong Rexton SUV, the Mahindra Alturas will be placed above the XUV500 in the company`s line-up. The Alturas looks like the new Rexton, gets a front grille that’s tweaked to cater to the Indian audience, and subtle changes to the body work. The SUV features a body on frame construction just like Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

There were numerous rumors doing the rounds on the internet that the new Rexton will be christened XUV700 or the Mahindra Inferno. Mahindra has now put to rest all these rumors and has reported that its luxury SUV will be called the Alturas. The name is derived from a Spanish word Alturas which means heights in English. Mahindra did not have any strong contender in the luxury SUV space till now. Mahindra plans to take on the Toyota Fortuner and the ford Endeavour head on with the Alturas SUV.

The Mahindra Alturas will be powered by a 2.2 litre oil burner that develops 180.5 HP and a massive 450 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a 7-speed automatic gearbox. It comes with a ground clearance of 244 mm and a turning radius of 5.5 m.

Mahindra will offer the Alturas in two variants – a fully loaded G4 variant with 4WD and a lower kitted G2 variant with 2WD. Feature wise the top of the line Alturas will feature leather seats, sunroof, ventilated seats with memory function, touch screen infotainment system and electronic parking brake. There is no information on the pricing, but we expect Mahindra to price the SUV competitively.
