Hyundai Motor India has declared that over one million made-in-India SUVs has been sold across domestic and export markets. The company has exported models from India like the Hyundai Venue, Creta, Tucson, and Kona Electric. Hyundai also included premium offerings like the Santa Fe and Terracan in India in its SUV line-up.
Hyundai started its SUV journey in 2003 with the premium offering Terracan in India. This model paved the way for the Santa Fe and the Tucson models in the SUV segment’s premium end. The introduction of the Hyundai Creta and Venue in the SUV segment considerably increased the sales and, since then, has kept the company extremely active.
Commenting on the landmark achievement, Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing & Service), Hyundai Motor India, said, “We are extremely grateful for the love and trust our customers have presented in Hyundai branded SUVs. Our journey towards SUV leadership was initiated by brands such as Tucson, Santa Fe and Terracan. Now we have witnessed exponential growth in the segment with the launch of contemporary brands like Creta and Venue that have quickly gone on to become well-established household names.“
The Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Venue have been the automaker’s biggest contributor in terms of overall volumes and dominance in the market.
The Hyundai Creta has recorded the top-selling SUV mark in India amidst the landmark SUV sales. Creta’s first-generation models hit the market in 2015. The second-generation version was launched in March 2020 and became the compact SUV segment leader. It recorded a cumulative sales of 2.2 lakh units in the export market and 5.9 lakh units domestically. On the other hand, Hyundai has also sold 1.8 lakh units of the Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV domestically and has become a top-seller in its respective segment.
