The architecture of the new Tata Safari is derived from Land Rover’s Omega architecture just like the Harrier. There is also a possibility of the introduction of a 4X4 variant of the Safari sometime in the near future.

The Safari is powered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated either to a automatic six-speed gearbox or six-speed manual. This engine produces 168 bhp of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The upcoming 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500 and the recently updated MG Hector Plus are the strongest competitors of the Tata Safari in the domestic market. Moreover, Hyundai is ready to challenge Tata Motors by introducing its new three-row Creta in the market later this year.
