Kia’s first model was the Seltos, which made its debut as the Kia SP Concept at the Indian Auto Expo in 2018. It was later launched in the following year during August 2019. Following the launch, Kia Seltos became one of the household names in the Indian auto industry as it gained huge popularity across the country.
Now in 2021, after just two years of its launch, Kia has decided to give a fresh transformation to the brand before moving forward. It has displayed a new, modern and more stylish logo on the bonnet and has updated its Indian products as well.
The 2021 Kia Seltos is available in dual-tone colour options and has the familiar front fascia with wraparound LED headlamps, tiger-nose grille and the muscular bumper. The top-spec variants features dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. The company has also offered Sand, Mud, and Snow/Wet traction settings along with Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes for this model.
The new Kia Seltos comes with one diesel engine and two petrol engines just like its outgoing model. The Smartstream 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine produces a maximum power of 113.4bhp at 6,300rpm and a peak tprque of 144Nm at 4,500rpm. It is mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or an IVT gearbox.
Its 1.5-litre CDRi VGT diesle engine produces 113.4bhp of maximum power at 4,000rpm and 250Nm peak torque between 1,500 and 2,750rpm. This motor is mated to either a 6-speed Manual Transmission or a 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic gearbox.
Kia Seltos’ top-spec engine is the 1.4-litre GDI turbo-petrol motor that produces 138bhp of maximum power and a 242Nm peak torque. This motor is mated either to a 6-speed Manual Transmission or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
The company has discontinued the production of the HTX Plus trim with the 1.5-litre diesel automatic configuration. Instead, it has added two new trims to the lineup: HTK+ with the 1.5-litre petrol and IVT combination, and GTX (O) with the 1.4 turbo-petrol engine and 6-speed manual.
Although the base variants of the Kia Seltos is unchanged, the company has provided few new features with the mid and top-spec variants. A wireless phone projection feature with the 8-inch touchscreen is available in the HTK variant. The HTK+ variant comes with a remote engine start on the smart key, electric sunroof, beige fabric seat, and automatic temperature control.

The HTX variant has features like an air purifier, electronic stability control, hill-start assist control, vehicle stability management, brake assist, over-the-air updates, AI commands, air purifier, etc. Brown leatherette seats are available with the HTX+ variants while Black and Beige sports leatherette seats are available with the GTX(O) variants. The GTX+ automatic and DCT variants has features like the paddle shifters. With the paddle shifter feature, it becomes the first vehicle in its segment to receive it.
Kookhyun Shim, MD & CEO of Kia India was quoted as saying, “The evolving needs of the customers are at the heart of our product strategy. Since launch, the Seltos and Sonet have been creating benchmarks in their respective segments, and with the additional variants, safety and convenience features, we are taking the game a notch higher.“
The Kia Seltos is one of a kind model in its segment. With the introduction of the newly added fetaures, especially if you talk about GTX+ and HTK+ variants, it has become one of the most value-for-money model in India.
