Passenger car safety has become a talking point these days and Indian car makers are working hard to ensure their cars meet the global safety standards benchmark.
Recently Global NCAP tested the 2020 Mahindra Thar and the SUV got a four-star rating for both adult and child occupant safety.
The crash tests were conducted under the #SaferForIndia campaign and the Thar which underwent the tests was equipped with 2 airbags.
The Global NCAP crash tests on the Mahindra Thar proved that the SUV offered good protection for the driver and passenger`s neck and head.
Adequate protection was offered for the driver`s chest area, and likewise the passenger chest area also showed good protection.
The car’s structure was rated as stable but the footwell area was rated as unstable by Global NCAP which also stated that both adult knee areas were optimised to reduce significant injuries in the Thar.
In terms of child safety the 2021 Mahindra Thar offered full protection during the test. ISOFIX anchorages and top tether with 3-point seat belts for is offered as standard.
The new Thar also meets the side impact UN 95 regulation. Although the Thar does not come with ESC as a standard fitment, it adhered to the minimum regulatory requirements.
Mahindra’s commitment to making safer cars has been once again displayed, said Secretary General of Global NCAP, Alejandro Furas, after the crash tests. He added that it is encouraging to see manufacturers that also offer high levels of protection for children.
Global NCAP launched the #SaferCarsForIndia crusade in 2014 for promoting safer cars and has completed more than 42 safety assessments between 2014 and 2020.
